Dr. William C. Cox - Pastor
Dr. Cox came as pastor of First Baptist Church in 1979. Previous to coming to Nevada, he served as pastor at Illmo Baptist Church in Scott City. A graduate of Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, Missouri, Pastor Cox completed a Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, in 1974 and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in 1981. While graduating from Southwest Baptist University, he received the History Award in 1970.
Pastor Cox received the Life Service Award from Southwest Baptist University in 1989 and an Honorary Doctor of Sacred Theology in 1991. He was honored as a Walter Pope Binns Fellow from William Jewell College in 1994.
The Pastor has served as president of the Nevada Rotary Club (1986-1987). While serving on the Missouri Baptist Convention Executive Board (1989-1995), he chaired the Inter-Agency Relations Committee. Dr. Cox served for six years on the Missouri Baptist Convention's Christian Life Commission and he served as second-vice president of the Missouri Baptist Convention in 1998.
Dr. Cox has had several sermons published in national journals: PULPIT DIGEST AND PROCLAIM. He has also had sermons published in THE EXPOSITORY TIMES, an international journal.
Pastor Cox and his wife, Marie, have four children. Buffie, an optometrist, is married to Kevin Mock and they live in Belton, Missouri. Bonnie, a former pilot in the United States Air Force, is married to Chuck Paquin and they live in California. Amanda, who is a tutor for deaf children, is married to Brandon Fisher and live in Nevada, Missouri. Jamin, a staff engineer at Moll Industries, lives in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
