Senior Adult Ministry Leader: Pastor Hubert Fox
|
Senior Adults are involved in many areas of First Baptist Church life. They participate in small-group Bible studies both on Sunday mornings and during the week. Some serve as teachers/groupleaders. A number of deacons at First Baptist Church are senior adults and are actively involved in the Deacon Family Ministry.
In addition to being active in the regular ministries of the church, senior adults also have opportunities to participate in activities scheduled specifically for seniors. The Glory Choir, which meets every Thursday morning at 10:30, is led by the church pianist, Debbie Fast. After an hour of singing, choir members & their spouses go to a local restaurant for a meal and fellowship. This choir has thirty-plus members who sing for Sunday morning Traditional Worship several times a year. The choir also sings at local nursing homes several times a year. In March of 2007, the choir presented a musical, "Homeword Bound,". A very popular event enjoyed each year is the Missouri State Share-A-Tune senior adult choir festival. This two-day event attracts senior adult choirs from all over the state.
First Baptist Church seniors have gone on several trips together, such as the Senior Adult National Conventions and Fall Chatauquas. Once a month we enjoy S.A.L.T. (Senior Adults Living Triumphantly) a carry-in luncheon at the church for food and fellowship.
First Baptist Church has a special group of members and friends who are homebound. They may be living at home or in a long term care facility. We reach out to them with a weekly letter that includes a devotional reading and a word puzzle.
We are constantly trying to find ways to more effectively minister to the homebound, many of whom have been very active members in the past but are now unable to participate in church activities. We are always open to suggestions as to how our senior adult programs can be altered or expanded to serve and involve more senior adults in serving others.
